Western Railways to cancel several trains, services to be affected for a week
Train services on the Western Railway line will be affected for a week. Rain damaged 10 trains this monsoon and all are now inside the shed for repairs. The flooded water on the train tracks damaged the machines of the train as it got submerged in the water. All this will lead to the cancellation of trains.
Monsoon rains in Mumbai is affecting daily lives of Mumbaikars. It is also the major reason behind delayed train services. Now it has been reported that train services on the Western Railway line will be affected for a week. Rain damaged 10 trains this monsoon and all are now inside the shed for repairs. The flooded water on the train tracks damaged the machines of the train as it got submerged in the water. All this will lead to the cancellation of trains.
Western Railways officials also said that trains will be delayed for a few days now as the trains are damaged due to waterlogging. AK Gupta, General Manager, Western Railway said “It will take around a week for them to be repaired. Till that time, train services will be affected.”
70 suburban services were cancelled by WR on July 12th; other 125 were delayed by 15-20 minutes. The WR has 101 rakes out of which 90 are used daily. It runs 1,355 services for 37 lakh passengers daily. The rest are kept for emergencies.
On Thursday morning, as a consequence of delayed trains, a 50-year old lady died while she was boarding an overcrowded coach from Borivali.
Alka Patade, a resident of Nancy colony in Borivali was trying to board a train which was 20 minutes late. She failed to do so and slipped under the wheels of the train. A Churchgate- bound fast train was supposed to arrive at 9:05 am on platform 7 but it arrived around 9:24 am. Due to the late arrival of the train, the platform was heavily crowded which led to the mishap.

“It seems that she was trying to catch this train and in the melee, she tripped and fell on the tracks and came under the train. Further investigation is on,” said S Patil, Senior Police Inspector, Borivali GRP.
DNA reported that she suffered severe injuries and was declared dead on arrival at Kasturba Hospital. She worked for a bank in Bandra Kurla Complex.
After the incident took place, the train had to wait for nine more minutes, which added to the delays.
