Western Railway to go for 3-point approach to de-water Vasai-Nallasopara belt
According to the plan, water from areas around the tracks will be drained out using high-powered pumps first. Secondly , to prevent the risk of water flooding the tracks in the future, walls will be built next to the station. As a final step, those areas requiring elevation of tracks will be located.
After three days of heavy rain in Mumbai, several parts of Vasai and Nallasopara belt were flooded - even on the fifth day. To ensure they do not get into the same situation again in future, Western Railway has come up with a permanent solution to the problem. With collaboration of local authorities, it has devised a three-point plan.
According to the plan, water from areas around the tracks will be drained out using high-powered pumps first. Secondly , to prevent the risk of water flooding the tracks in the future, walls will be built next to the station. As a final step, those areas requiring elevation of tracks will be located.
General Manager of Western Railway, AK Gupta informed about the plan on Wednesday. while speaking to DNA, he said, “ We will take a three-pronged approach to sort this. Drains will be cleaned and water will be pumped out, then we would build walls along the platforms. They will be 50 metre wide on either side. Finally, we are locating areas where tracks need to be raised.”
He added that the construction of the walls and de-watering will begin immediately
The decision was taken in the joint-meeting attended by various agencies aimed to find the solution

Besides , the proposal to build culverts ,that would bypass the rail tracks and widen the existing ones is also given permission by Western Railways .
