Weddings CANCELLED, lockdown EXTENDED in this state- check details

As the sign of Covid-19 cases being reducing is seen nowhere, the Rajasthan government on Sunday extended the coronavirus lockdown by 15 days till June 8. However, the state is mulling some relaxations on commercial activity from June 1, in the districts with significantly low cases.  

According to a government release, the state home department issued an order extending the lockdown from 5:00 am on May 24 to 5:00 am on June 8.  

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced the imposition of a three-tier lockdown in the state from May 24 to June 8. Earlier, the lockdown was valid till May 24, the extension comes in a view of cases yet to peak out in the state.

The government order also mentioned that it will be mandatory for travellers coming from outside the state to submit the RT-PCR negative report, conducted within 72 hours.  

If a passenger does not submit a negative test report, the person will be quarantined for 15 days, said Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Office in a statement.

The council of ministers and experts, in a meeting on Saturday, suggested extending the lockdown to contain the spread of the coronavirus.  

As a precautionary measure, the state government has also increased the fine for not wearing a face mask at public places or workplaces from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000. While the wedding ceremonies will not be allowed in the state till June 30, the release said.

The state has reported over 9 lakh cases and around 7500 deaths so far, it is most affected by the latest black fungus infection after Maharashtra and Gujarat. At least 90 such cases have been detected in the state.

India has been battling a severe second wave of Covid-19 crisis since March 2021. It has reported over 25 crore cases over the last year and over 2.5 lakh deaths during the same period.
