As per meteorological officials, with the exception of Kokernag in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, all other weather stations in the region recorded sub-zero night temperatures.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, bore the brunt of the plummeting temperatures, registering a minimum of minus 1 degree Celsius on Friday night.

This marked a dip from the previous night's 0.9 degrees Celsius, with the temperature being one degree below the seasonal norm.

Pahalgam, a renowned tourist destination in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, claimed the title of the coldest recorded place in the valley, with temperatures dropping to minus 3.4 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the popular tourist spot of Gulmarg in north Kashmir experienced a low of minus 1 degree Celsius.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir and Qazigund, the gateway town to the valley in south Kashmir, reported minimum temperatures of minus 0.5 and minus 0.8 degrees Celsius, respectively. Kokernag town, the exception to the sub-zero trend, recorded a low of 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Meteorological projections indicate that the chilly conditions are likely to persist, with the weather expected to remain partly to generally cloudy and predominantly dry until November 28.

However, there is a possibility of light rain or snow at isolated locations in the higher reaches of Kashmir on November 29-30, according to the Meteorological Office. Residents and visitors are advised to brace themselves for the continuation of the cold spell in the coming days.
