India records 7% more than average rainfall from June 1 to August 30: IMD
IMD predicted heavy to heavy rainfall in parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP). Besides heavy rain, the IMD has forecast thunderstorms in isolated places across the state over the same time.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), India recorded seven per cent more than average rainfall from June 1 to August 30 this year.
Meanwhile, IMD's scientist Ramashray Yadav predicted light to moderate rains today for Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The regions of Kachchh also received heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours, with the state receiving 882 mm of rainfall since June 1, according to the IMD scientist.
"Kachchh has received very heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours...Gujarat has received 882 mm of rainfall since June 1, which is 50% more than normal...Saurashtra and Kachchh regions have also recorded more than normal rainfall...Light to moderate rains are expected for Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar today,", Yadav said in a statement.
Heavy rainfall forecast for parts of Andhra Pradesh from Aug 30 to Sept 1

"Strong surface winds with a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour are likely at isolated places over NCAP, Yanam, SCAP and Rayalaseema," it said in a release on Friday.
Cyclone warning in Kutch
The authorities in Gujarat's Kutch district have asked people living in huts and makeshift houses to take shelter in schools, temples or other buildings after the IMD said that a deep depression over the area might turn into a cyclonic storm by Friday morning.
