WATCH: Is 'fat tax' on junk food necessary or compulsion?
Kerala government has recently imposed 14.5% 'fat tax' on burgers, pizzas and pastas which will make these junk food costlier.
"The proposed 'fat tax' of 14.5% for burgers, pizzas and pastas served in branded restaurants would target an additional revenue of Rs 10 crore," PTI reported on Friday quoting the state's Finance Minister T M Thomas Issac as saying.
Kerala has become the first state in the country to impose 'fat tax' on junk food.
Is the 'fat tax' necessary or compulsion?
Zee Business channel had a debate discussion on this issue with experts from various areas including industry and political party namely Gopal Krishna Agarwal from BJP, Rajeev Tyagi from Congress, Silky Singh from Zee Media, Devanshu Gandhi from Vadilal Industries, Gaurav Gupta from Pasta Hut, Divya Gandhi a nutritionist, Shilpa Chawla a dietician and P S Rawat from Assocham.
