Want Indian Railways confirmed tickets? Problem to end; this tech miracle will provide seats for you easily
According to the Ministry of Railways' 100-day action plan, all the premium trains of Indian Railways will reportedly use Head on Generation (HOG) technology, to save diesel on a large scale.
Indian Railways has planned to adopt Head on Generation (HOG) technology to run all its premium trains to save on costs as well as to provide more and more seats to passengers, said a Zee Business Online report, adding that some trains are already being run under this technique.
Indian Railways' new action plan
According to the Ministry of Railways' 100-day action plan, all the premium trains of Indian Railways will reportedly use Head on Generation (HOG) technology, to save diesel on a large scale. Recently, Indian Railways has used this technology in Humsafar Express engine that runs between Bandra and Saharsa. Through this technique, the Railways will approximately save 5000 liters of diesel from this train in its to and fro journey. After using this technology in all premium trains, millions of liters of diesel will be saved every year.
This is how HOG technology works
Electricity is supplied with an overhead wire to the electric engine to run the trains. AC trains generally have two power cars. The heavy generator sets supply electric power to all the compartments as per their requirement, while the head-on-generation (HOG) technology also extends electric power received from the overhead wire to the engine and then is transported to every coaches of the train. Further, the electricity supply is also forwarded through the engine to power fans, ACs, lights etc in the coaches.

Confirm tickets to passengers
Following the use of Head on Generation (HOG) technology, which will supply power in the train coaches and therefore make the power cars redundant. Since an AC train normally carries two power cars, but with the use of head-on-generation (HOG) technology, they would loose their relevance. In such a situation, power cars can be replaced by normal coaches. If two coaches are increased in any train, about 140 passengers would be be able to get seats easily in the train. With the use of HOG technology in all the premium trains, there is a possibility that up to 4 lakh additional seats will be me available in these trains on every day basis.
Notably, it has also been estimated that use of this technique will help save the Railways the fuel worth Rs 6000 crores.
