Vice President Election 2022: Voting today! Know about result date, other details
The Electoral College to elect a person to the office of the Vice President consists of all members of both Houses of Parliament.
The election to choose India's next Vice President will take place on Saturday, August 6,2022. NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankar will take on opposition candidate Margaret Alva for the post.
Current Vice President Venkaiah Naidu's term will end on August 10. It must be noted that the Vice President is ex-officio chairman of the upper house i.e. Rajya Sabha.
The Vice President is not a member of either House of Parliament or of a House of a Legislature of any state.
The tenure of Vice President is for five years and the selected person cannot be the member of any house of the parliament or house of legislature of any state.
If in any case the chosen Vice President is already a member of any house then he/she is deemed to have vacated the seat from the day he/she enters the office of Vice President.
Meanwhile, the number jacks up in favour of the NDA candidate Dhankar, but Alva, a senior politician, has pitched for a conscious vote.

The voting will begin in the Parliament House complex and MPs will cast their ballots.
Electoral College:
The Vice President is elected by an electoral college consisting of members of both Houses of Parliament, in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote and the voting in such election is by secret ballot.

Result date:
The results will be declared today itself after the voting takes place from 10 am to 5 pm. The ballots will be counted immediately and the Secretary General of Lok Sabha, who is also the returning officer in this case will announce them today evening.
The NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankar has been supported by JDU, Shiv Sena (Shinde Faction), BJD, YSRCP, AIADMK, RLJP, AGP, TMC-M among several other parties apart from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
At the same time, opposition candidate Margaret Alva has generated support from Congress, NCP, CPI-M, CPI, SP, TRS, RJD, JMM, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray), MDMk among other parties.
