Praising the Fit India Movement, Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli told Prime Minister Narendra on Thursday that we can see the difference in our daily lives now. Speaking about the Yo Yo test, Kohli said that it was important to bring Indian cricket at par with other nations. The RCB skipper said that he is the first one to take the test and if he fails, even he won’t be selected in the squad.
“When I started playing, cricket was changing and was becoming more demanding. We always had the skills but were behind in terms of fitness. That’s where I took the call of taking fitness more seriously. Today, if I miss a practice session, I may not feel that bad. But, if I miss gym for a day, I feel really bad,” Kohli said.
He added that one of the first things he had to change was his diet. Kohli said that he stopped eating out and that made a lot of difference.
Responding to PM Modi’s question about how the cricketer manages his calorie intake and workload, Kohli explained that people need to become more conscious about what they eat and why they are eating it.
“Good lifestyle also helps your recovery period. No matter how tired you get, good diet and fitness helps you recover faster,” Kohli said.
PM Modi started the interaction by speaking to Indian Paralympic javelin thrower Devendra Jhajharia. The prime minister requested Jhajharia to share his inspiring story of winning an Olympic medal. The athlete acknowledged the success of Fit India movement by saying that people from all ages have joined this movement.
PM Modi also asked Jammu and Kashmir woman goalkeeper Afshan Ashiq how the state is producing such good athletes.
“We live on higher altitudes which helps us when we go and play in other parts. The stamina is better than others. Also, people indulge in activities like trekking which makes them stronger and helps them,” she explained.
