Viral Acharya joins RBI as Deputy Governor today

Viral Acharya, economics professor at New York University Stern School of Business on Friday joined Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as its deputy governor.
Acharya will look after portfolios like monetary policy and research clusters. He will also take a seat in the six member monetary policy committee (MPC).
RBI's next bi-monthly monetary policy is scheduled for the first week of February. Analysts and experts are betting on a 25 basis points rate cut at his policy.
At NYU Stern, Acharya's research interests lie in banking, credit risk, asset pricing, liquidity risks and many other financial institutions.
