US agrees to supply vaccine raw materials; 5 tonnes of oxygen concentrators dispatched—This is what US President Joe Biden, VP Kamala Harris said

As India continue to grapple with Covid 19 second wave, the United State (US) on Sunday has agreed to send necessary raw materials for Covishield to speed up vaccine manufacturing and help India tide over this crisis.  

The development comes after the US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan talked with India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval over phone.

"Spoke today with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval about the spike in COVID cases in India and we agreed to stay in close touch in the coming days. The United States stands in solidarity with the people of India and we are deploying more supplies and resources," tweeted Jake Sullivan.  

The White House issued a statement after the phone call which said: "The United States has given the assurance of providing raw materials to Indian manufacturers without the need for the Covishield vaccine."

"To help treat COVID-19 patients and protect front-line health workers in India, the United States has identified supplies of therapeutics, rapid diagnostic test kits, ventilators, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that will immediately be made available for India," a statement by NSC Spokesperson Emily Horne read.   

Meanwhile, five tonnes of oxygen concentrators dispatched from New York to India, reported news agency ANI 

Just as India sent assistance to the United States as our hospitals were strained early in the pandemic, we are determined to help India in its time of need, ANI quoted US President Joe Biden saying this.  

The US is working closely with the Indian government to rapidly deploy additional support and supplies during an alarming COVID-19 outbreak. As we provide assistance, we pray for the people of India—including its courageous healthcare workers, said US Vice President Kamala Harris
