The power shortage could go up in Uttar Pradesh from Tuesday as the power plants in the state are likely to receive 30 per cent lesser coal. Despite an ultimatum from Centre via an advisory issued by the Ministry of Power pertaining to import of coal for blending puposes, the Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam has not issued a tender in relation to it neither has it taken any decision on it.

The ministry had in its advisory said that if states do not purchase 10 per cent foreign coal for blending purposes, then with effect from 7 June 2022, the states would get only 70 per cent of the allotment quota. If the states still do not buy it, then the states would get only 60 per cent of the allotment quota.
The power ministry had issued an advisory on 1 June 2022.
