As per a report by india.com, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken a big step by announcing 28-day paid leave for all COVID-19 infected employees as well as those who are under quarantine after coming in contact with an infected person. This decision by the Uttar Pradesh government has brought in relief for the state government employees. This decision is also applicable for the employees working at shops, commercial establishments, and factories with 10 or more employees that have been shut due to local administration orders. It has been stated that the employees need to present a medical certificate at the time to resuming duty in order to avail this benefit.

When the pandemic struck the country last year, total lockdown was imposed in the country. The lockdown was lifted in a phased manner as situation seemed to be under control. However, the rapid spike in the number of COVID-19 cases across the country has thrown the state governments into disarray. Nevertheless, amidst such uncertainties, the decision by the Uttar Pradesh government has undoubtedly been a relief for the state government employees.

The notification released by the Uttar Pradesh government on this decision last week reads, "Employees, workmen affected by Covid-19 or who are suspected to be affected by the virus and kept in isolation will be provided paid leave of 28 days by their employers. Such leave shall be permissible when such workman or employees provide/submit a medical certificate in this regard to their employer or authorised person at time of joining duty after fitness.”

The present COVID-19 situation in the country seems to be worse than last year. However, the only hope is that the vaccination drive in the country is going on. Recently, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has tweeted, "Uttar Pradesh government has placed an order for one crore doses of anti-COVID vaccines for the vaccination drive beginning May 1."

On Monday, the state has recorded 33,574 new COVID-19 cases and 249 deaths over the last 24 hours.
