Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday praised the Union Budget 2025, emphasising its people-centric approach and its role in shaping India's economic future. He described it as a "historic people's budget" that will propel India's growth while providing significant relief to the middle class, farmers, and entrepreneurs.
Relief for Middle Class and Taxpayers
PM Modi highlighted major tax reforms aimed at easing the financial burden on citizens.
"In this Budget, income up to Rs 12 lakh per annum has been made tax-free. Tax reductions across all income groups will provide immense relief to the middle class. It will also create great opportunities for young professionals who have recently entered the workforce," he stated.
Boost for Agriculture and Rural Economy
The Prime Minister underscored the budget's provisions for the agriculture sector, particularly the newly introduced 'PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana.'
"Irrigation and infrastructure development will take place in 100 districts under this scheme. Additionally, the Kisan Credit Card limit has been raised to Rs 5 lakh, ensuring more financial support for farmers," he noted.
Manufacturing and Job Creation
Focusing on industrial growth, PM Modi stressed the budget's "360-degree approach" to supporting entrepreneurs, MSMEs, and small businesses.
"From the National Manufacturing Mission to industries like CleanTech, leather, footwear, and the toy industry, multiple sectors have received special support. Our goal is for Indian products to shine in the global market," he asserted.
To further boost state-level investments, he announced a doubled credit guarantee for MSMEs, fostering a competitive business environment across the country.
Empowering Marginalised Communities and Gig Workers
PM Modi highlighted social welfare initiatives, particularly for Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SC), women entrepreneurs, and gig workers.
"For the first time, gig workers will be registered on the e-Shram portal, allowing them to access health and social security benefits. This reflects our government's commitment to the dignity of labour and the 'Shramev Jayate' mantra," he said.
Technology and Innovation Push
The Prime Minister outlined steps to encourage innovation and technological advancement, including the introduction of the Deep Tech Fund, Geospatial Mission, and Nuclear Energy Mission.
"These steps will shape the future of India's economy by supporting startups and cutting-edge industries," he added.
Transforming Key Sectors
PM Modi highlighted key industry reforms, including the private sector's entry into nuclear energy and granting infrastructure status to shipbuilding.
"This move will accelerate growth in India's civil nuclear energy sector, while shipbuilding will receive a major boost under 'Atmanirbhar Bharat,' generating extensive employment," he noted.
Tourism and Heritage Conservation
Recognising the potential of India's tourism industry, PM Modi announced that hotels will now be included under infrastructure projects, facilitating large-scale development.
"By bringing hotels under the infrastructure category, the tourism and hospitality sectors will receive a major boost. These industries play a crucial role in employment generation," he remarked.
Concluding his remarks, PM Modi reiterated that the Budget embodies the vision of "Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi" (Development and Heritage together), balancing modern progress with cultural preservation.
"This Budget is a force multiplier for India's growth, and I congratulate every citizen for being part of this transformative journey," he said.
