Unbelievable! Full meal priced at just 30 paise! Food virtually free in this company

Surprise! Yes, for just 30 paise, there is actually a place where people are getting good, wholesome food virtually free! You can actually have a sumptuous meal including rice, daal, 2 vegetables, papad, salad, dahi, sweets and two bananas, in just 30 paise! You think that is pricey? Well, wait, you haven't read it all, there is still an even more surprising, even awesome, bit left over! One can also have breakfast in just 6 paise! And no, they will not be feeding you air, the items on the menu include namkeen puri, pyaji, ladoo, halwa, kachaudi and aloochaap. Truly unbelievable? Not at all, it is very much happening! Where? At the Tata Motors canteen in Jamshedpur, according to a Dainik Jagran report.

The report said that about 15,000 employees are enjoying this facility on every day basis, and it is claimed that such a service is available nowhere else. Notably, when companies across the world are going full steam ahead with cost cutting efforts, Tata Motors is doing yeoman service for its employees. No, it is not a new service, food has been cheap here for the last 64 years! 

The company reportedly provided this facility not only for its permanent staff, ad hoc employees, trainees, but also for staff on contract. Of the 15,000 staff, the number of permanent, ad hoc and trainee employees add up to over 10,000 - while 4,500 are employees on contract.

In the canteen, only permanent staff have to pay 60 paise for meal or Rs 20 in a month, while rest have to pay merely 30 paise, said the report, adding that the company provides a coupon for breakfast as well as meal which employees can buy for a week. 

The canteen was established the year the company's foundation was laid in 1954. Since then, the company has been providing meals to its employees on cheap rates. 

Earlier, the company itself used to run the scheme, but now an agency Sodexo, which serves meals at Tata Motors' canteen, is doing this service. The agency gets subsidy from Tata Motors.
