PAN Aadhaar Link: The Income Tax Department (ITD) has made Aadhaar PAN link mandatory by 30th June 2020. Earlier, the PAN Aadhaar link last date was 31st March 2020, but the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) decided to extend this deadline by three months after the implementation of Coronavirus lockdown. So, PAN Aadhaar linking should be your top priority once the lockdown if over as this is has been made mandatory for certain services, such as filing your income tax returns (ITR). In case, you fail to do that by 30th June 2020, your PAN card will become inoperative after 30th June 2020, says CBDT's latest communication in this regard.

The CBDT had send reprimand to around 17 crore PAN Card holders few month ago asking them to do the PAN Aadhaar link on an urgent basis otherwise they will have no other option but to make their PAN Card inoperative. It also said that one can link one's PAN Aadhaar both offline and online. Following the CBDT guidelines, a good number of people had done their PAN Aadhaar link before the Coronavirus lockdown announcement. But, only linking of PAN Aadhaar may not be enough as it may get rejected due to some irregularity while doing the PAN Aadhaar Link. So, one needs to keep checking the PAN Aadhaar link status. As per the official website of the income Tax Department —  incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in — one can do PAN Aadhaar link status check through SMS by sending a text message at 567678 or 56161.

To check the status of PAN-Aadhaar link status through SMS, the user needs to send an SMS to 567678 or 56161 in the following format UIDPAN < 12 digit Aadhaar number> < 10 digit Permanent Account Number>. If the PAN Aadhaar link is successful, you will receive a message "Aadhaar...is already associated with PAN..in ITD database. Thank you for using our services."

So, you have both online and SMS options available to check your PAN Aadhaar link status. Do this if you have already linked your PAN Aadhaar. but, if you are still not able to do PAN Aadhaar linking, do it on an urgent basis once the lockdown is lifted.
