UDAN scheme: International flights at just Rs 2500? Modi govt's ambitious project to expand wings, services to become global

UDAN scheme: Regional Connectivity Scheme, popularly known as UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) services, would soon cover global destinations through International UDAN as the government is making efforts to expand its wings to provide airline travelers more opportunity to enjoy international spots at a cheap price of just Rs 2500.

Sources told Zee Business that International UDAN is focusing on the expansion of the Regional Connectivity Scheme on international routes. The International UDAN is likely to kick off in the upcoming 3rd phase of the UDAN scheme. 
Under its new plan, the government may also connect UDAN routes or destinations to international routes and destinations to facilitate the cheap air travel, sources further added. 

The plan may be initiated from Assam RCS airports, where the travelers will be provided air connectivity for places like Bangkok, Thailand, and Kathmandu, sources said, adding that the same facility would also be available from airports in Bihar to connect international places including Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar. Chennai, however, may not get connected to Singapore. 

The Central government move has already gathered positive response from stakeholders as Assam government has already shown a keen interest, sources said, adding that airline firms like Spicejet have pitched in to fly under UDAD scheme to destinations like Bangkok and Thailand.

Sources further told the news channel that Aviation Minister may soon announce it, adding if everything goes fine, air facility to international destinations would be available under UDAN scheme for just Rs 2500.

Notably, under the third phase of UDAN, the government toying with the idea to begin Seaplane services.

The government has already got a good response for the seaplane scheme in the upcoming bidding round of the UDAN scheme, sources said, adding the final results would be announced.
