Under the Regional Connectivity Scheme or Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN), the latest airport to find the place is Durgapur on the UDAN map. 12 routes under the UDAN scheme have recently become functional, taking the total operational routes to 186, including 8 Tourism RCS routes, of the total 706 sanctioned routes, according to an official statement. Durgapur airport is now the 40th airport to become functional under the scheme.

According to the statement, the 12 routes with daily flight operations are:

1. Kolkata(WB)- Allahabad(UP)
2. Allahabad(UP)- Kolkata(WB)          
3. Allahabad(UP)-Raipur(CG)
4. Raipur(CG)-Allahabad(UP)
5. Gwalior(MP)- Bangalore(KA)
6. Bangalore(KA)-Gwalior(MP)
7. Kolkata(WB) -Gwalior(MP)
8. Gwalior(MP)- Kolkata(WB)            
9. Mumbai (MH) - Belgaum(KA)
10. Belgaum(KA)-Mumbai (MH)
11. Mumbai (MH)- Durgapur(WB)
12. Durgapur(WB)-Mumbai (MH)
 
Under UDAN scheme, 706 RCS routes, including 46 Tourism RCS routes, have been awarded to 19 selected airline operators. RCS flights commenced from 40 RCS, including 23 unserved and 17 underserved, airports while Durgapur is the latest airport on the UDAN map, according to the statement. 

Notably, ministry of Civil Aviation launched UDAN under UDAN on October 21, 2016 to stimulate regional air connectivity and making air travel affordable to the masses. Since then three round of biddings have been completed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the first RCS-UDAN flight on 27th April, 2017 at Shimla. 

Under the scheme, 106 RCS Airports/ water aerodromes, including 76 unserved, 20 underserved and 10 waterdromes, and 31 heliports have been identified for commencement of RCS flight connecting small cities in India, the statement added.
