To prevent driver identity fraud, ride-hailing giant Uber on Tuesday said it will send in-app reminders and push notification to the riders so that they can match the license plate, car make and model, and the driver photo. As per an Uber statement, the alert will go live on Tuesday and further progress will roll out nationwide in the days ahead.

Pavan Vaish, Head of Central Operations, Uber - India and South Asia, said in a statement that the goal is to make checking your ride before you get in the car synonymous with using Uber, every single time. 

Further, he said that this new notification feature will remind people to complete safety steps every time they get in an Uber.

To confirm the driver's identity and for safety purpose, the riders are also suggested to ask the driver to confirm the name. As the driver has access to see the riders name in his app, and the riders have the driver`s name displayed in the app. So you can safely exchange names to confirm the identity.

Uber also suggests not to board in the vehicle if the information in the app does not match up.
