Travel by Mumbai local? Western AC local train fares hiked
It is worthwhile to know that in the year 2018-19, AC local train has had a total earning of almost Rs 19 crore and the services of this train are getting a very good response from commuters.
The Ministry of Railways has hiked the fares of Mumbai local trains. The new base fare of the single journey would be 1.3 times of the base fare of existing single journey tickets of First Class tickets w.e.f 1st June 2019. This means that Mumbaikars will have to pay more for AC local train service from the date. According to a press release, the Ministry of Railways has now decided to withdraw the introductory offer of Air-conditioned EMU train.
Currently, the base fare of the single journey of AC local is 1.2 times the base fare of first-class tickets, whereas now it shall be increased up to 1.3 times of the current base fare from 1st June 2019. One should know that if you have season tickets then you won’t have to pay extra.
However, In the case of upgradation of first-class single journey tickets/ season tickets into AC EMU single journey tickets/season tickets, a difference of fare shall be collected as per revised base fare.

One should also know that the beginning of the new financial year too has been fruitful with the AC local earnings garnering approx Rs 1.84 crore in April 2019 which created a record of highest ever earning in a single month.
The AC local had first started on 25th December 2017 and has earned a total revenue of almost Rs 24 crore up to 30th April 2019. Presently, 12 services of the AC EMU train are being operated from Monday to Friday on Churchgate- Virar of Western Railway. According to the WR, at least 58 lakh commuters have travelled on the AC local till date.
