In a bid to control the increasing air pollution, the Central and the State governments has started charging on road tax and registration fees for those using e-cars in the country. The government has also decided to make a green leaf plate for e-cars and the first person in India who got the coveted plate is Avinash Nimonkar of Thane, according to a Bhaskar report!
This is courtesy his Mahindra 'E-Vereto' car - an electric sedan, which is owned by Nimonkar. According to him, he bought this car keeping in mind the deteriorating environment and it was his attempt not to spread pollution further.
Mahindra E-Vereto produces zero per cent pollution and gets charged within 8 to 10 hours by a 15 amps plug-in which is required for AC fridges. The cost of running the car for 150 kilometers is Rs 50. The car costs from Rs 9 to Rs 10 lakh.
However, the Central government is giving Rs 1.38 lakh and the state government is giving Rs 1 lakh grants on the purchase of the car.
Similarly, the road tax and the registration fee would be around Rs 5 lakh. The gasoline costs around Rs 10 per kilo and the cost of running the car per kilometer is Re 1.
Nimonkar said that he has a charging point at his home so it is not a problem for him to charge the car. He also said that he and three of his friends have decided to set up fast-charging points within a radius of 50 kilometers and that the spend on each point would be around Rs 10 lakh.
