The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has completed the installation of 100 per cent LED lightings in all its stations a week before the target, an Indian Railway official said. Due to the installation of LED lights in all the stations, the ECoR is expected to save about 21 lakh units of energy approximately which will also save about Rs 1.33 crore annually, the ECoR official said. Indian Railways had planned to make all the stations 100 per cent LED lit to cut power consumption and the ECoR achieved it a week before the set target of March 2018.

The official said, "It is a huge initiative taken by the ECoR to provide energy efficient lighting which will eventually help in the conservation of environment also."

Altogether 319 stations and passenger halts of the ECoR comprising 134 stations under Khurda Road Division, 118 stations under Waltair Division and 67 stations under Sambalpur Sivision are now equipped with 100 per cent LED lightings, he said.
