The pay-gap between richest Indian women and men is startling
Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries topped the list for the fifth consecutive year with the wealth worth Rs 1.63 lakh crore.
It turns out that richest Indian women, too, are just a shadow of their male counterparts when it comes to wealth.
According to data compiled by Hurun, only 4% women occupy a place in the list of richest Indians. Hurun said, “The only self-made women entrepreneur is Bengaluru-based Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw (63) of Biocon, with a networth of Rs 10,800 crore.”
It further said, “Savitri Jindal (66), is the richest woman with a personal fortune pegged at Rs 35,000 crore and bags the 18th position in the Hurun India Rich List 2016.”
Following Jindal was Indu Jain of Bennett Coleman with a net worth of Rs 28,000 crore and Smitha V Crishna of Godrej with wealth worth Rs 15,700 crore. Fourth in the list was Vinod Gupta of Havells India with a net worth of Rs 14,800 crore.
Forbes India's Richest People, Savitri Jindal stood at 23rd position among India's richest people. Along with her, only three other women, namely, Leena Tiwari (54th), Indu Jain (57th) and Vinod Gupta (74th) made it to the list. While other 96 positions were occupied by men with again Ambani at the top.
