The NDA government has taken a dim view of the happenings at an airport the video of which went viral. Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu has ordered an enquiry into the Guwahati airport roof leak case. The passengers at the airport, on August 28, caught the 'disaster' on camera after heavy rains. The roof of the newly expanded section of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport started leaking after heavy showers and the video of the water gushing in from the roof went viral on the social media sites. It was a dangerous incident as water was seen falling in heavy amounts from electrical fittings too.

Prabhu has directed aviation secretary to institute an enquiry into the matter saying that the government will not tolerate a substandard job and the loss of precious public money.

"Directed Secretary @MoCA_GoI to institute immediate enquiry into water falling from the roof of #Gauhati airport. We shall take strict action against all responsible. We can’t tolerate substandard job, loss of precious public money Zero tolerance to such occurrence," tweeted Prabhu.

A Guwahati Airport official had said that the rain had caused some damage to the airport.

In response to the viral video, the Airport Authority of India has claimed that normalcy was restored within an hour.

"We would like to inform you that due to the intense rain last night at the @aaightairport, the roof drain overflowed. Normalcy was restored within an hour by cleaning the floors. No passenger movement & flight operations were affected," said the AAI while replying to a Twitter user.

However, Centre is unwilling to let the matter go and is demanding answers from the relevant quarters. Aviation is one of the more high profile infrastructure areas that the NDA government is focussed on expanding.
