Supreme Court asks NDMA to frame guidelines for paying Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia to families of persons who died due to COVID-19
The Supreme Court on Wednesday, June 30, has passed a judgement on the plea seeking ex-gratia compensation of Rs 4 lakh to families of those who have lost a family member due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Justice Ashok Bhushan led bench has directed the Centre to frame guidelines to pay ex-gratia to families of those who died due to the COVID-19.

Supreme Court dismissed the Centre's plea, which stated that no such ex-gratia amount can be paid.
The amount to be determined by the National Authority under the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The Supreme Court has directed the National Authority to decide the reasonable amount.
The Supreme Court has also directed the Centre to issue guidelines to simplify the issuance of death certificates in cases of deaths due to COVID complications.
The Supreme Court has also expressed displeasure with the fact that the National Authority failed to do its duty in not framing guidelines for compensation.
The National Authority has now been given 6 months for framing the guidelines.
