Student of the Year 2 box office collection: Seven years after introducing three current stars - Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Siddharth Malhotra - Dharma Productions' 'Student of the Year' is back with its second installment, this time with Puneet Malhotra as director. The new film starring Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria in lead roles has released to decent occupancy across the country and should earn in double digits on first day. Film trade analyst and critic Sumit Kadel tweeted on Friday morning that Student of the Year 2 has opened with 20 per cent occupancy across India. The film is likely to pick up in the evening shows and over the weekend.

In another tweet, Kadel wrote a positive review of the film, praising Tiger Shroff for a good performance. "#SOTY2 is cromulent ,film has correct dose of entertainment, good music & engaging screenplay. @ITIGERSHROFF performance is fantastic in every aspect, debutant Ananaya SHINES ,Aditya did complete justice to his part & Tara is mediocre . Film can work at the BO," he tweeted.

Earlier, he had told Zee Business Online that the film could have an opening of Rs 10 to Rs 11 crore. Kadel had said that Tiger Shroff would be one major factor to drive audience to theatres. The actor's last release Baaghi 2 was a massive box office hit, breaking many records last year.

''The film is expected to earn around Rs 30 to 35 crores in its opening weekend and will likely to have impact on sales due to running mega hit Avengers: Endgame.'' Kadel explained. What works in favour of Student of the Year 2 is absolutely no competition at the box office. This week no major Hindi film has hit the theatres and Avengers: Endgame which has entered its third week has started to show signs of slowing down.

Tiger Shroff is confident about the film's success and at a recent press conference in Delhi said that Student of the Year 2 also comes with an important message.

"The movie was a new experience for me other than my past roles as I have mostly done action roles. I got a chance to romance two gorgeous girls and play sports. Movie is not just  limited to the fun part but it also gives an important message which we have not shown in the trailer but you will come across when you will watch it in theatres," he has said.

Meanwhile, Ananya Panday said that Alia who made her debut with the first instalment of the film is her ideal. "I wanted to become an actor after I watched her in SOTY. Just like her, I want the audience to see me grow and don't want to be perfect from the start," the actress said.
