Several states reduce VAT on petrol, diesel after Centre’s excise duty cut
Providing some relief from the increasing fuel prices the central government on Wednesday announced excise duty reduction on Petrol and Diesel and also urged the states to commensurately reduce the value-added tax (VAT).
Providing some relief from the increasing fuel prices the central government on Wednesday announced excise duty reduction on Petrol and Diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10 per litre respectively.
"Government of India has taken a significant decision of reducing Central Excise Duty on Petrol & Diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10 respectively from tomorrow. Prices of petrol & diesel will thus come down accordingly. The reduction in excise duty on diesel will be double that of petrol," the government said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

The government has also urged the states to commensurately reduce the value-added tax (VAT) on Petrol and diesel to give relief to consumers.
Responding to the Centre’s call, several state governments have reduced VAT on fuel prices. Here are the details.
Uttar Pradesh
The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to reduce the VAT by Rs 7 and Rs 2 on petrol and diesel respectively. With the cut in excise duty by the Centre and reduction of VAT by the state government, their prices will come down by Rs 12 per litre in the state, said a PTI report quoting Additional Chief Secretary (Information) Navneet Sehgal.
Gujarat
The Gujarat government has announced the implementation of the Centre's decision and reduced prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 7 per litre in the state.
Goa
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced slashing the VAT by Rs 7 on both petrol and diesel in the state.
Assam
Assam government has announced a reduction in VAT on petrol and diesel by Rs 7 per litre with immediate effect.
Karnataka
Karnataka government announced to reduce the VAT on both petrol and diesel prices by Rs 7 per litre from November 4.
Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand government has announced a reduction in VAT on petrol by Rs 2 per litre in the state. With this, petrol prices in Uttarakhand are going down by Rs7 per litre.
Haryana
Haryana government has reduces VAT on petrol and diesel in the state, now both petrol and diesel will be cheaper by Rs 12 per litre.
Tripura
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has announced that the state government has decided to reduce petrol and diesel cost by Rs 7 from November 4.
After central and state governments deduction in fuel prices, petrol and diesel will be cheaper by ₹12 and ₹17 respectively in #Tripura from tomorrow.

Himachal Pradesh
Himachal Pradesh CM Jai Ram Thakur has said that the state government will issue a notification soon to reduce Value-Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel prices.
Odisha
The Odisha government has announced VAT reduction of Rs 3 per litre on both petrol and diesel, to be applicable in the coastal state from the midnight of November 5.
Bihar
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has siad that the state government has decided to reduce the rates of VAT at the state level to give additional relief of Rs 3.90 per litre in diesel and Rs 3.20 per litre in petrol to the people.
Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced reduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by 4 percent.
Mizoram
The Mizoram government has reduced VAT on Petrol and Diesel each by Rs 7 with immediate effect from November 4, Chief Minister Zoramthanga said.
