Seven out of top 10 cars sold in June were Maruti Suzukis; see list
Maruti Suzuki is the market leader when it comes to car sales in India and June was no different. Data provided by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) show that seven out of the top 10 cars that were sold in India in the month of June 2017 belonged to Maruti Suzuki. The company had 47.74% market share in the given month.
Maruti Suzuki sold 93,057 cars in June 2017 as against 87,451 cars in the same month of last year. This is 3,101 cars sold per day. As against Maruti Suzuki, its closest competitor in India - Hyundai Motor - sold 1252 cars per day in June with a market share of 19.27%.
Naturally, these two car companies dominated the top 10 most popular cars sold in the month of June 2017.
However, what is interesting to note is that five out of these top 10 cars saw decline in sales in the given month.
Maruti Suzuki's Alto remained top seller with 14,856 cars sold but lower by 5.7% as against the same month of last year.
This was followed by Hyundai's Grand i10, Maruti's Dzire and WagonR with 12,317, 12,049 and 10,668 cars sold with drop in sales of 2.8%, 22.6% and 10.8%, respectively.
Hundai's Elite i20 sold 10,609 cars, up 18%, while Maruti Suzuki's Swift, Baleno, Vitara Brezza and Celerio sold 9,902, 9,057, 8,293 and 6,375 units, respectively.
Hyundai's Creta came in at ninth spot with sales of 6,436 cars sold with a drop of 16.4%.
Top Gainers
The cars that gained maximum market share in the month of June 2017 were Volkswagen Ameo at 55.29% month-on-month rise, followed by Honda's WRV at 50.78%.
Tata Motors' Zest stood at ninth spot with 17.63% rise in sales, at 1,595 cars.

The cars that saw maximum drop in sales were Toyota Corolla, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, Toyota Etios, Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Innova and Toyota Liva and Cross.
SIAM data show that passenger car sales in the month of June 2017 fell 11.21%. SIAM said that passenger car sales in the month of June 2017 stood at 1,36,895 units as against 1,54,237 units in the same month of last year registering a drop of 11.24%. Utility vehicles (UV) and vans saw a sales drop of 11.25% and 10.72% at 49, 547 units and 11,957 units, respectively.
