Seven institutes from India have been listed in the top 400 educational institutions in the world by a ‘QS World University Rankings 2016’ survey. This included six Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) i.e. Delhi (185), Bombay (219), Madras (249), Kanpur (302), Kharagpur (313) and Roorkee (399) and the Indian Institute of Science.

However, the Indian universities such as Indian Institute of Science and the IIT Delhi saw a drop in their rankings from last year in the top 200 list. While the Indian Institute of Science slipped to 152 rank from 147 last year, IIT Delhi dropped six notches to 185 from 179 in 2015.

The survey ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as No.1 rank and was followed by another two US universities, Stanford in second sport and Harvard in third spot.

According to the report, experts believe that the exact post-Brexit impact on UK universities will become clear after next year as a lot of the research for this year’s rankings was conducted before Britain voted on the referendum to leave the European Union (EU).

UK universities such as Cambridge University slipped for the first time in its rankings to fourth from third spot last year, while Oxford stayed at No.6 rank.

The survey comprised of giving 40% for academic reputation, 10% for employer reputation, 20% for faculty student ration, 20% for citations per faculty, 5% for international students and 5% for international faculty.
