Sensex, Nifty hit fresh high; HDFC, Coal India among top gainers

Indian benchmark indices - BSE Sensex and NSE's Nifty50 - hit fresh high today (Tuesday) after Monday's huge gain on the bourses. Sensex was trading 205.24 points, or 0.52 per cent, higher at 39,557.91 at 9:21 am. In similar movement, the broader NSE Nifty rose 48.90 points, or 0.41 per cent, to 11,877.15. At 9:19 am Sensex was at 11,857.10 points, which is 28.85 points or 0.24 points higher. At 9:21 am, Nifty was at 11,857.10 points, up 28.85 points or 0.24 percent. In the early trade,
Adani Ports, GAIL, M&M, HDFC, and Coal India are the top Nifty gainers, while BPCL, TATA Motors, Hindalco, Bajaj Finserv, and YES Bank are in red. In the Nifty50 index, 29 stocks advanced and 21 declined at 9:26 am. Nifty Auto, IT and PSU Bank sectoral indices were in the red. IT stocks came under pressure as rupee appreciated. Other Nifty sectoral indices have managed to stay in the positive territory by a small margin.
Indian stock market has seen a huge surge on Monday after exit polls predicted that BJP-led National Democrative Alliance (NDA) is going to retain power with brute majority. BSE Sensex set a new record by posting a highest-ever single-day gain in 10 years.
Most of the stocks advanced on the bourses. With all but two stocks in the red, Sensex zoomed 1,421 points or 3.75 percent to 39,353 points. NSE Nifty ended its day at 11,828 points, up 421 points or 3.69 percent.
SBI, IndusInd Bank, Tata Motors, Yes Bank, L&T, HDFC, Maruti and ONGC are the Sensex stocks that emerged as the top gainers, surging as much as 8.64 percent. On Monday, Indian rupee though shed some gains, but ended higher by 60 paise at 69.62 per dollar over the previous day's close of 70.22.
