Indian markets closed on a positive note on the D-Street, boosted by strong performance from auto and metal shares.

Sentiments also steered up when, Rajya Sabha said on monsoon parliament session that GST Bill will be taken for discussion next week amid good set of quarterly numbers.

Sensex ended above 92.72 points or 0.33% at 27,803.24. The overall index was positive with 18 advances and 12 declines. Total quantity traded was around 8,185,403 shares with a turnover of Rs. 362.96 crore.

Nifty after slumping in the early trade, re-gained its momentum during the second half of the session. The 51-stock index ended at 8,541.20 up by 31.10 points or 0.37%. Overall it was positive with 32 advances, 18 declines and 1 remaining unchanged.

Auto index on BSE surged by 160.57points or 0.78% at 20,646.30. Tata Motors was the top gainer by soaring over 3.20% to Rs. 506.40.

The top five gainers on the BSE include Tata Motors up 3.21% (Rs 506.40), Powergrid up 2.52% (Rs 166.85), HDFC up 1.78% (Rs 1,355.65), L&T up 1.14% (Rs 1,573.95) and NTPC up 1.10% (Rs 156.55).

The top five losers on the BSE include Bajaj Auto down 1.60% (Rs 2,720.75), State Bank of India down 0.95% (Rs 223.45), Coal India down 0.80% (Rs 902.90), Hindustan Unilever down 0.80% (Rs 902.90) and Sun Pharma down 0.78% (Rs 787.75).
