Sensex edges up 40 points in choppy trade
After dropping to a low of 28,311.11 points, down 104 points, BSE Sensex inched up to close at 28,412.89 points.
The larger 51-scrip NSE Nifty also closed up 0.18% at 8,742.55 points.
The key equity indices had not changed much from the day's open.
A report by IANS stated that profit booking and negative global cues dented investors' sentiments and heavy selling pressure was witnessed in banking and automobile stocks.
However, service sector shares climbed 1.81%, with shares of TV 18 Broadcast closing up 9.18% to Rs 44 per share.
Other top gainers on BSE were Jubiliant Food networks (8.48%), Sun TV (5.51%), Unitech (5.42%), Dish TV (4.91%).
Among the losers were BEML (12.26%), Prestige (4.76%), PC Jeweller (4.50%), Ashok Leyland (3.55%) and Trent (3.24%).
