Sensex closes down 170 points

A benchmark index of the Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip BSE Sensitive Index (Sensex), provisionally closed Monday`s trade 169.65 points or 0.66% down.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also provisionally closed lower by 43.90 points or 0.56% at 7,805.90 points.

The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 25,565.44 points, provisionally closed at 25,436.97 points (at 3.40 p.m.) -- down 169.65 points or 0.66% from the previous day`s close at 25,606.62 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 25,565.44 points and a low of 25,341.14 points in the intra-day trade.
