Schools in Noida, Lucknow, Ghaziabad closed due to heavy rainfall
Besides, authorities in Aligarh, Meerut, and Ghaziabad have also ordered the closure of schools on Monday in the wake of heavy rains.
School Closed In Noida, Lucknow: Schools in parts of Uttar Pradesh will remain closed today, October 10, owing to the heavy rainfall warning by the weather department. The Delhi-NCR region has been experiencing continuous rainfall since Saturday. In view of the bad weather, the Gautam Budd Nagar district administration has ordered the closure of schools today. Schools in Lucknow have also been asked to remain shut today owing to the heavy rainfall warning.
Besides, authorities in Aligarh, Meerut, and Ghaziabad have also ordered the closure of schools on Monday in the wake of heavy rains. In Aligarh, all schools up to class 12 will remain closed till October 12.
"Due to excessive rain in the district and keeping in view the possibility of excessive rain, the District Magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar has declared a holiday on October 10 (Monday) in government, semi-government aided and unaided recognized schools of all the boards operating from class 1 to 12 of the district," District School Inspector Dharamveer Singh said.
"Therefore, all the principals and headmasters should ensure compliance of the order," Singh stated in the order issued late Sunday night.
The continuous rainfall has flooded several roads and uprooted trees in many areas of Noida and Greater Noida, leading to traffic snarl. Continuous rain brought down the temperature in Gautam Buddh Nagar over the weekend by almost 10 degrees, with the district receiving 25 mm rainfall till Sunday morning, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) figures.
As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state recorded an average of 22.5 mm rainfall on Sunday, which is 2396 per cent more than the 'long period average' (LPA) for the day. Since October 1, the state has recorded 92.3 mm rainfall which is 500 per cent more than the LPA of 14.4mm. IMD officials have issued forecast of more rains across the state in the next 24 hours.
