SBI customers ALERT! SMS asking PAN is Fake - details

SBI Fake SMS: Scores of State Bank of India (SBI) customers have been receiving messages informing them that their YONO bank account has been deactivated. The message further says that customers will need to update their PAN in the bank account to avoid their account getting blocked. If you are among those who have received this message, then this article is for you. The message is FAKE.

The PIB has issued a warning to the SBI YONO account customers. It has asked SBI YONO account customers not to respond to the message and instead report such messages.

PIB Fact Check in a Tweet has asked the customers to not share any personal or banking details.

"A Fake message issued in the name of SBI is asking customers to update their PAN number to avoid their account from getting blocked. Never respond to emails/SMS asking to share your personal or banking details," PIB Fact Check said in a Tweet.

The Twitter account of PIB Fact Check counters misinformation on government policies and schemes.

PIB Fact Check has also asked customers to report such messages. Customers may respond to emails/SMS asking to share their personal or banking details by writing an email to report.phishing@sbi.co.in or dialing on --1930.

The fake message circulating reads, “Dear Customer, your SBI YONO Account Closed Today Contact now And Update your PAN NUMBER in the following link". The message also has a link.

Customers should know that banks never ask for personal details on messages and over calls.

SBI on its website has warned its customers against bank fraud. "SBI never asks for confidential information such as a PIN or OTP from customers. Any such call can be made only by a fraudster. Please do not share personal info," it reads.
