Rs 1.04 lakh stolen from post office account of this man - Know how to avoid such frauds
In a new kind of economic offence , fraudsters have fished out Rs 1.04 lakh the post office account of a 77-year-old man.
In a new kind of economic offence, fraudsters have stolen Rs 1.04 lakh from a post office account of a 77-year-old South Delhi resident KC Gupta, reports Times of India. The newspaper further reports that police is inquiring into the matter from both cybercrime angle and from the inside malfunction involving some of the post office staff in South Delhi's Green Park post office, from where the incident was reported.
KC Gupta — a senior citizen has been quoted in the newspaper that a few days ago he got a call from the Green Park post office asking why he has been repeatedly withdrawing money from his post office account, which was nothing but a shock to the 77-year-old senior citizen. He replied to the post office officials that the last transaction he had done from his private bank ATM was on 31st December 2018. The post office officials asked him to come to the post office where Gupta come to know that fraudsters had withdrawn around Rs 1.04 lakh from his account leaving paltry Rs 357 only.

The police have been quoted into the news that they are investigating the incident from two angles, one from card cloning perspective as multiple transactions have been done to fish out money from Gupta's account. The police are also investigating if there is involvement of any post office personnel in this fraud.
Commenting upon the matter and the kind of incident happened to KC Gupta cybercrime expert, Pavan Duggal told Zee Business online, "In terms of card cloning, senior citizens are common victims as fraudsters clone their card using skimming device or malware software." He advised card users to use ATM with proper care and hide the key board while putting the PIN of the debit card or credit card while transacting from an ATM or from a retail shopping center.
