Indian Railways has concluded its computer-based test for the recruitment of Assistant Loco Pilots and Technicians on September 4. Railways said the RRB exam has registered a record number of turnout this year. Railways today said that a record 76.76 per cent of candidates appeared for the RRB ALP/Technician exam.
"We have successfully completed 1st stage CBT for more than 47 lakh candidates, competing for 64,037 ALP & Technician posts, with a record attendance of 76.76% in the history of RRBs. Applicants in previous ALP/Technician exam was about 32 lakhs and attendance was 47.47%," said the ministry in a tweet.
Over 47 lakh candidates have applied for 64,037 ALP & Technician posts. The exam was held in phases starting from August 9, 10, 13, 14, 17, 20, 21, 29, 30, 31 and September 4. Going by the official figures, over 36 lakh candidates have taken part in the examination while around 11 lakh candidates skipped the same. One of the key reasons for absenteeism can be attributed to the location of exam centres. Many students had complained of not getting exam centres nearby of their homes.

As many as 17 per cent students got exam centres beyond 500 km of their homes. "Around 83% candidates have been provided centres within 500 kilometers. Special care has been taken to ensure that almost all women candidates and Persons with Disability are provided centres within 200 kilometers," the railways had said.
A total of 3,59,605 lakh candidates out of 4.83 lakh had appeared for the first exam held on August 9. "On 9th August, a total of 4.83 lakh candidates i.e. approx. 1.60 lakh per shift were scheduled. There has been a tremendous response and an unprecedented number of more than 74% candidates have attended the examination today. Total 3,59,605 candidates have participated in today’s examination," the railways had said in a statement on August 10.
