Road Accidents Decrease: The Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Saturday said that the road accident parameters in India registered a massive decline. The PIB tweeted the information with a chart showing the decline in figures.

According to the official tweet, the road accidents in the country dropped from 814 per 10,000 vehicles to 15 in the year between 1970 - 2022, which saved countless lives.

"Massive drop in road accidents from 814 per 10,000 vehicles to 15, saving countless lives," PIB tweeted. "Motor vehicles (Amendment) act,2019 passed for ensuring strict compliance of traffic rules," it added.

According to a government data released by PIB, the number of road accidents per 10,000 vehicles is 814, 339, 148, 80, 39 and 15 in the year 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000, 2010, and 2020 respectively.

Furthermore, PIB said that this decrease in road accidents is a result of multiple-pronged strategies. "Resulting of multiple pronged strategy to address issue of road safety based on Education, Engineering, Enforcement & Emergency Care," it wrote.
