High temperature: Mercury in New Delhi likely to rise 3-5°C over next week

High temperature: People in Delhi and the NCR should be prepared for warm weather next week as the temperature is expected to rise 3-5°C.

The Indian Meteorological Department releases the data for temperatures over the next five days, warning that parts of north India could see temperatures rise as high as 3-5°C.

The weather department, however, rules out any significant wave conditions.

"Maximum temperatures are very likely to rise gradually by 3-5°C over most parts of the country except northeast India and the Western Himalayan Region during next 3-5 days becoming near normal," the met department said in its All India weather summary and forecast bulletin. 

"No significant heat wave conditions are likely over any part of the country during next 5 days," reads the statement. 

The release says that weather conditions in parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi are going to be dry for the next five days (till April 13). 

It says that Delhi has been witnessing below-level minimum and maximum temperatures, but temperatures can switch fast. 

"Minimum temperatures are appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.1°C ) at many places over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi; at a few places over West Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan; and at isolated places over Vidarbha.

"Maximum temperatures are below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at many places over East Rajasthan, Rayalaseema; at a few places over Odisha, Uttar Pradesh; at isolated places over Haryana, Chandigarh, & Delhi and near normal over the rest of the country," the met department said.

The highest temperature in the country was measured at Rajgarh (West Madhya Pradesh), where mercury rose to 40.0°C.

While the lowest minimum temperature in the country was measured at 14.0°C in Sikar (East Rajasthan).

The department says dry weather conditions are likely to continue over northern India on April 14 and 15 as well. 

"Mainly dry weather is likely over most parts of the country except over northern Peninsular India and eastern Rajasthan, where isolated light rainfall is likely."

The met depart issued thunderstorm and gusty wind warnings for places in Kerala and Odisha on Monday. 

"Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty wind (30-40 kmph) is likely at isolated places over Kerala and Mahe and with lightning over Odisha."
