Indian Railways recently launched a revamped and improved reservation website that is now live and rolled the old one into the sunset permanently. The new one has completely replaced the older one. This new IRCTC e-ticketing website: irctc.co.in is passenger-friendly and clutter-free. It allows passengers to log on to the website easily and the navigation is also simpler than the older one and would also allow easy and faster booking of tickets. The beta version of the revamped e-ticketing website was launched on May 28, 2018 and it even predicts the probability of getting tickets confirmed.

The website also allows seamless navigation on mobiles, desktops, laptops, and tablets. In a bid to help passengers, the website has been upgraded with filters as per departure/arrival time, class, train and quota. After testing the new website and recording feedback, IRCTC decided to switch to the new website yesterday evening around 7:00 PM. 

Now passengers can check the availability of the train tickets, availability of trains on other days, modification of journey details without even login into the website. Earlier, passengers had to login into the website to search for train tickets.

In order to capture the trends and predict the chances of waitlisted tickets getting confirmed the new software used for the website uses the historical data for two years. The software developed by CRIS (Centre For Railway Information Systems) is more accurate than other ticketing portals. Indian Railways claims that it makes use of the extensive and accurate data available with the railways.

With a view to provide confirmed accommodation to waitlisted passengers and also to ensure optimal utilisation of available accommodation, a scheme called Alternate Train Accommodation Scheme – VIKALP had been conceptualised and was introduced initially only for the tickets booked through the internet as a pilot project for six months, on Delhi-Lucknow and Delhi-Jammu sectors of Northern Railway.
