Lok Sabha elections 2019: The combined worth of assets of top 10 richest candidates in fray in the Lok Sabha elections 2019 is whopping Rs 2218 crore. There are also several candidates who have reported zero assets. Richest candidate in fray is H Vasanthakumar of Congress contesting from Kanniyakumari constituency in Tamil Nadu. He has reported assets worth Rs 417 crore. He is followed by Uday Singh of Congress with assets worth Rs 341 crore. He is contesting from Purnea in Bihar.
The richest BJP candidate in fray is actor-turned-politician Hema Malini with assets worth over Rs 250 crore. She is contesting from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. In the top 10 list (see graphics), the top three are Congress candidates.
Some candidates have reported zero assets in their affidavits to the Election Commission. Some of the names include Shukal Murmu of JMM in Kishanganj Amir Nayak of BSP in Odisha.
The campaigning for the second phase of elections ended today in many states including Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Assam.
As many as 97 Lok Sabha constituencies spread over 13 states and Union Territories which will go to the polls on Thursday in the second phase of the mega seven-phase electoral exercise.
Since poll timings vary in different seats, the campaigning period also ended at different times between 3 p.m and 6 p.m in different constituencies (except Madurai) -- 48 hours before the voting closure time.
In the first phase, voting will take place in all 39 seats in Tamil Nadu. It will also cover 14 seats in Karnataka, 10 in Maharashtra, eight in Uttar Pradesh, five each in Bihar and Odisha, and three each in Chhattisgarh and West Bengal.
