Republic Day 2024 Rehearsals: Delhi traffic to be affected due to road closure on January 23 — Check parade rehearsal route, alternate routes
Republic Day 2024 Rehearsals: According to the advisory, commuters are requested to plan their journeys well ahead to avoid the parade route from 9.30 am to 1 pm. The full dress rehearsal will have the same route as that of the Republic Day parade.
Republic Day 2024 Rehearsals: The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory on Monday, January 22, informing the public about the traffic disruptions on Tuesday, January 23, due to the full dress rehearsal for the Republic Day parade in Central Delhi.
According to the advisory, commuters are requested to plan their journeys well ahead to avoid the parade route from 9.30 am to 1 pm. The full dress rehearsal will have the same route as that of the Republic Day parade.
The rehearsal will start at 10.30 am from Vijay Chowk and proceed to the Red Fort. The route of the parade will go through Vijay Chowk—Kartavyapath—'C' Hexagon—R/A Statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose—Tilak Marg—Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg—Netaji Subhash Marg—Red Fort.
In order to facilitate the smooth passage of the parade, traffic movement leading to the route of the parade will be restricted from 6:00 am on Monday, January 22, until the end of the rehearsal on Tuesday. There will be no cross traffic on Kartavyapath at Rafi Marg, Janpath, Man Singh Road from 11:00 pm on Monday until the parade is over. C-Hexagon—India Gate will be closed for traffic from 9:15 am on Tuesday until the parade crosses Tilak Marg, according to the advisory.
Throughout the dress rehearsal, all stations will still offer Metro services. However, boarding and deboarding at the Central Secretariat and the Udyog Bhawan stations will not be allowed from 5 am to 12 pm on rehearsal day.

Passengers travelling between the north-south corridors should follow—
- Ring Road—Ashram Chowk—Sarai Kale Khan—LP Flyover—Rajghat—Ring Road
- Madarsa—Lodhi Road 'T' point—Aurobindo Marg—AIIMS Chowk—Ring Road—Dhaula Kuan—Vande Matram Marg—Shankar Road—Park Street or Mandir Marg.
Passengers travelling between the east-west corridors should follow—
- Ring Road—Bhairon Road—Mathura Road—Lodhi Road—Aurobindo Marg—AIMS Chowk—Ring Road—Dhaula Kuan—Vande Matram Marg—Shankar Road—Park Street or Mandir Marg
- Ring Road—Boulevard Read—Barf Khana Chowk—Rani Jhansi Flyover—Faiz Road—Vande Matram Marg-R/A Shankar Road
- Ring Road—ISBT—Chandgi Ram Akhara—LP College—Mall Road—Azadpur—Punjabi Bagh
Passengers travelling to New Delhi Railway Station should follow—
From South Delhi: Dhaula Kuan—Vande Matram Marg—Panchkulan Road—Outer Circle Connaught Place—Chelmsford Road for Paharganj side or Minto Road—Bhavbhuti Marg for Ajmeri Gate side
From East Delhi: Boulevard Road via ISBT Bridge—Rani Jhansi Flyover—R/A Jhandewalan—D.B. Gupta Road—Sheela Cinema Road—Paharganj Bridge and reach New Delhi Railway Station
Passengers travelling to Old Delhi Railway Station should follow—
From South Delhi: Ring Road—Ashram Chowk—Sarai Kale Khan—Ring Road—Rajghat—Ring Road—Chowk Yamuna Bazar—S.P. Mukherjee Marg—Chhatta Rail—Kauria Bridge to reach the station.
Although there won't be any restrictions on residents of North Delhi travelling to the New Delhi or Old Delhi railway stations, it is still recommended that they plan and allow enough time to get there to prevent any potential delays.
There will also be restrictions on bus movement, and they will be curtailed at the following points—
- Park Street/Udyan Marg
- Aram Bagh Road (Paharganj)
- RIA Kamia Market
- Delhi Sachivalaya (IG Stadium)
- Pragati Maidan (Bhairon Road)
- Hanuman Mandir (Yamuna Bazar)
- Mori Gate
- ISBT-Kashmiri Gate
- ISBT-Sarai Kale Khan
- Tis Hazari Court
Interstate buses from Ghaziabad bound for Shivaji Stadium shall take National Highway-24, Ring Road, and terminate at Bhairon Road. Buses coming from National Highway-24 shall take a right turn on Road No. 56 and terminate at ISBT Anand Vihar, as the advisory mentioned. Buses coming from the Ghaziabad side will be diverted at Mohan Nagar towards Bhopra Chungi for the Wazirabad Bridge, and all interstate buses coming from the Dhaula Kuan side shall terminate at Dhaula Kuan.
Additionally, starting at 11 pm on Monday and continuing until the conclusion of the parade, neither heavy transport vehicles (HTV) nor light goods vehicles (LGV) will be permitted to enter Delhi, according to the Delhi Traffic Police. No HTV or LGV will be allowed to ply on Ring Road between ISBT-Sarai Kale Khan and ISBT-Kashmiri Gate between 7:30 am and 1:30 pm on Tuesday.
Moreover, the advisory also mentioned that no taxis and rickshaws will be allowed to enter or ply between 7:00 am on Tuesday in the area bound by—Mother Teresa Crescent—Baba Kharak Singh Marg—Ashoka Road up to R/A Patel Chowk—Sansad Marg up to Tolstoy Marg—Tolstoy Marg up to Kasturba Gandhi Marg—Kasturba Gandhi Marg up to Ferozeshah Road—Ferozeshah Road up to R/A Mandi House—Bhagwan Das Road—Mathura Road—Subramaniam Bharti Marg—Humayun Road—APJ Abdul Kalam Marg—ATA Turk Marg—Kautilya Marg and Sardar Patel Road.
The advisory also mentioned that the National Capital Territory of Delhi restricts the use of sub-conventional aerial platforms such as paragliders, paramotors, hang gliders, unmanned aerial vehicles, unmanned aircraft systems, microlight aircraft, remotely piloted aircraft, hot air balloons, small powered aircraft, quadcopters, or para jumping from aircraft until February 15.
The advisory also urges motorists to follow traffic laws and follow the directions of personnel deployed at intersections.
