RBI Governor ZEE BIZ EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has donned several hats be it as a second term Governor of the Central Bank, member of the 15th Finance Commission and a career bureaucrat. Das said that as a regulator, there is never a dearth of unfinished agenda. It will always be like that and which is good, he pointed out. This will keep the regulator on his toes and help him take actions on what must be done. He said that there is no “time-bound unfinished agenda”.

He said that there will be a challenge one day and once that is dealt, there will be another. A regulator has to move with the times, he opined.

On personal front, he said that he never has personal milestones to achieve. He said that his agenda is always the agenda of an organisation. His efforts have been on implementing the agenda of the organization in the best possible way the RBI Governor said.

He said that there are challenges on multiple fronts – one is digital lending which the regulator has dealt with some success. It will have t deal with problems that arise, going forward. Cyber Fraud is another problem that it has to deal with.

There are challenges being posed by emerging technologies and innovations like fintech and the risks associated with them. He said that global situation is very dynamic and one has to be nimble footed to deal with them.

Being nimble footed is the biggest challenge for a regulator, he concluded.

The Governor also spoke on how the Central Bank was creating awareness on cyber frauds in a big way through television, radio, print media and voluntary organizations or consumer associations.

The Market Guru also complimented the Governor on Central Bank’s action on lending apps after a couple of sting operations were done by the channel. The RBI has also formed guidelines with respect to the lending apps.

Zee Business did #OperationHaftaVasooli after learning that these the lenders were harassing people. The channel also highlighted the Chinese connection with many such apps, Singhvi said.
