Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi Express travellers: Your menu is set to change; check what you may get
Its notable that in its July 2017 report, Comptroller and Auditor General of India had rebuked the Indian Railways for foods served in these premium trains.
Indian Railways has been improving its services onboard the premium trains like Rajdhani Express, Duronto Express and Shatabdi Express. Improved aesthetics, toilets, berths and last but not the least food are being offered to passengers. If you also travel in these trains and not happy with the food being offered, then there is good news for you. The Indian Railways is working to change the menu of Rajdhani Express, Duronto Express and Shatabdi Express trains.
It's notable that in its July 2017 report, Comptroller and Auditor General of India had rebuked the railways for foods served in these premium trains. It had then asked the railways to provide a menu to the passengers onboard these trains. The CAG had also advised railways to provide different dishes every day during a week.
Recently, the Railway Board has authorised the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to rationalise the menu of these trains.
"IRCTC shall decide menu of catering service to be implemented on all pre-paidRajdhani/Shatabdi/Duronto trains where catering services are provided by them. IRCTC shall ensure that the menu is commensurate with the notified tariff... While deciding the menu, IRCTC shall also ensure that:- a) Passenger satisfaction is ensured. b) Quality of catering services and hygiene is of the highest standard and is monitored. c) No undue benefit should accrue to the contractor. d) Number and nature of services and service wise tariff shall be as decided by Railway Board from time to time," railway board had said in its circular.
Earlier, this power was with Railway Board's catering department. As of now, these premium trains have a similar kind of foods served to passengers like veg and non-veg foods.
