An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 on the Richter scale was reported near Jodhpur in Rajasthan on Thursday, August 26, 2021, said the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

According to NCS, the earthquake occurred at 11:15 am.

"Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.0, Occurred on 26-08-2021, 11:15:52 IST, Lat: 25.83 & Long: 72.06, Depth: 10 Km ,Location: 106km WSW of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India," NCS tweeted.

 

NCS also informed that an earthquake of magnitude 5.1 on the Richter scale was reported in Pangin, Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday at 5:08 am.

"Earthquake of Magnitude:5.1, Occurred on 26-08-2021, 05:08:22 IST, Lat: 38.87 & Long: 95.49, Depth: 10 Km ,Location: 1193km N of Pangin, Arunachal Pradesh, India," it tweeted.

 

It can be noted that an earthquake is a natural phenomenon that occurs when two blocks of the earth suddenly slip past one another. The surface where they slip is called the fault or fault plane, the location below the earth’s surface where the earthquake starts is called the hypocenter, and the location directly above it on the surface of the earth is called the epicenter.
