Light showers and an overcast sky provided some respite to inhabitants of the national capital on Sunday, with the maximum temperature recorded at 39.8 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

"A thunderstorm with rain is expected on June 24 and 25," said IMD.

On Friday, the weather agency anticipated a typically gloomy sky with thunderstorms and light rain, as well as strong gusts.

The humidity was 63 per cent at 5.30 PM  Parts of Delhi saw mild to moderate rain on Sunday evening.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the national capital's Air Quality Index (AQI) was 143 at 6 PM, falling into the "moderate" category.

An AQI between 0 and 50 is regarded "good," 51-100 "satisfactory," 101-200 "moderate," 201-300 "poor," 301-400 "very poor," and 401-500 "severe."
