Railways increases RAC seats on trains from mid-January
Ministry of Railways on Monday revised the number of berths earmarked as Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) in coaches of different classes.
“The enhanced RAC accommodation will be available in trains in which booking will be opened from 16th January, 2017,” the Ministry said.
It said that sleeper class will now have seven side lower berths and 14 passengers will be provided confirmed accommodation. This limit earlier was five side lower berths with 10 passengers getting confirmed berths.
On 3AC, Railways said that four side lower berths for eight passengers will be reserved now from earlier two berths and reserved accommodation for four passengers.
For 2AC, the limit is being increased from two side lower berths and four confirmed accommodations to three side lower berths and six confirmed accommodations for passengers.
“The move will help in allowing more persons to travel in the train,” the Ministry said.
