Railways extend 10% rebate in fare on vacant berths to all trains from January 1
Passengers in the Indian railways will now get a 10% rebate in basic fare on vacant berths after preparation of the first class, Ministry of Railways said on Friday.
“10% rebate shall be applicable on the base fare of last ticket sold for a particular class and train just before preparation of first chart,” the Ministry said.
This scheme was earlier introduced by the Ministry for Rajdhani Duronto and Shatabdi trains only and has now been extended.
This facility, the railways said, will be available from January 1, 2017 for a period of six months on experimental basis.
The order issued by the railways further said, “Reservation fee and superfast charge as applicable shall be levied in full & service tax and so on as applicable shall be levied.”
The idea of offering rebate was that in case train berths were lying vacant, passengers could book tickets at a lower price.
“10% discount shall also be applicable for allotment of vacant berths (due to non-turned up passengers) in the train by TTEs,” the report added.
