Addressing the nation on Wednesday evening prime minister Narendra Modi urged the nation not to be careless against COVID-19 and highlighted the fact that the virus is still out there. The prime minister said that several videos and images have come out recently where people can be seen breaking the rules. He said it only puts the person in danger but can also impact their families.

“In this festive season, markets are bright again but we need to remember that the lockdown might have ended but COVID-19 still persists. With efforts of every Indian over last 7-8 months, India is in a stable situation we must not let it deteriorate,” PM Modi said. 

He added that the country is working on the COVID-19 vaccine and some of them are even in advanced stage. The Prime Minister said that as soon as the vaccine is ready, it will be made available. 

The prime minister started his speech by acknowledging the fact that the country has come a long way in the battle against coronavirus. He said even the economy is slowly recovering. 

“Several people are going out to shop ahead of the festive season. But, we should not forget that the virus hasn’t gone anywhere. The efforts in the last 7-8 months have ensured that India is witnessing a good recovery rate. We need to ensure that the situation doesn’t worsen,” he said.  

Giving the example of other countries like the United States and Brazil, PM Modi said that India has encountered coronavirus better than most countries.  

PM Modi has addressed the nation few times since the lockdown measures were announced in March. Since then PM Modi has been updating the nation regarding big developments in the country. He has also brought up the issues of coronavirus and economic recovery during Mann Ki Baat.  

In his last such address, he had on June 30 announced extension of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), a programme to provide free ration for over 80 crore people, mostly poor, by five more months till November end.
