PM Modi says India taking a big step towards bright future, dedicates to nation Rs 1.25 lakh crore semiconductor projects
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday dedicated to the nation three semiconductor projects, estimated to be worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore, as part of the central government's 'India Semiconductor Mission' aimed at creating an end-to-end semiconductor ecosystem to enable the country to lead the global semiconductor industry.
"We are taking a big step towards a bright future," the Prime Minister said while addressing the youth at the ‘India's Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat' video conference, describing the development as the onset of the country's journey to becoming the world's semiconductors technology hub.
Among the three planned semiconductor facilities, one each is located in Gujarat's Dholera and Sanand, and one in Assam's Morigaon.
The event saw the virtual participation of students from 1,814 higher education institutes. Apart from live streaming of the event, the higher education institutes also conducting seminars, and scheduled conferences during the day to encourage deliberations on the subject and brainstorm a roadmap to achieve 'Viksit Bharat @2047' through research and innovation.
